Today we were asked to write about the most iconic game sound to us.
For the sound i picked i decided to do the chest opening sound from the legend of Zelda.
The reason I picked the chest opening sound as the most iconic sound is because it instantly makes the player know that they got something good which helps the player want to get more chests. Another reason I like the sound is that it is easily recognizable so even if the player wasn't looking at the game they would know that they opened a chest.
Why is audio important to games:
To me, the main reason it is important to games is that it adds to the immersion into the game bringing the player closer to the game and making their experience better. I also think it is important because it adds to a game making it feel more lively and less boring. The audio is also important to the mood of the game as it can change the mood of people so easily and can make moments more intense. Without sounds a game feels off as most of the game will be in complete silence not only taking the player out of the game but also making the player not want to play a game. Even if not all the sounds in the game are missing the player will still notice the game is missing sounds which moves the player's focus from the game to the sounds. But with the right sounds a game can take the player's focus and move it onto an other place helping the flow of the game and keeping the player focused on the right thing.
Difference between the importance of sounds in different games:
In my opinion, the main difference between the use of sounds in metro exodus and ratchet and clank is the feeling that the game is going for. In my opinion, the main reason metro exodus uses game sounds is to increase the believability of the game's story and to get the player more involved in the game,s plot and environment whereas, in the ratchet and clank game, it is more focused on getting the player focused on combat and the player have a fun time the audio in ratchet and clank isn't really used to add tension and worry to the player, unlike metro exodus.
Difference and meaning between Diegetic sounds and Non-Diegetic:
Diegetic sounds are the sounds that are happening in the world of the game these sounds would be the sounds that the character could hear like gunshots and enemy noises and Non-Diegetic sounds are sounds that only the player could here like background noises and UI noises.
