For this task, we were asked to make a hard-aced surfaced robot model using the 3DS Max software. We had to plan our initial ideas of what we wanted our robot to look like and his purpose and research concepts and references to better plan out our robots.
To start I drew up sketches of my robot based on my ideas and concepts. I then imported them using them as textures so I could reference them as backgrounds to make my model accurate to the art. I then used editable-poly moving edges and vertices into basic shapes creating the general look of my robot. I then added the modifiers to create the more complex aspects using Turbo smooth to create a smooth faceplate and using symmetry to make the body and hips even and symmetrical.
The task went well altogether I am happy with what I achieved I added all the features I had planned and I learned a lot of things to help with model development in the future. all feedback from friends and classmates has been good. The main negative feedback is that the model is too blocky and could have been chamfered to make a small amount rounder. The main positive feedback is that people enjoy the general design and the joints.
My biggest issue during the task was my limited understanding and ability to use 3DS Max, my skills had to be improved to get to a level good enough for this project to be at a standard I was happy with. I had a hard time using the software due to the complexity of the software and the constant crashing.
These issues are what helped me overcome this task as they motivated me to do better and learn the software as best I could in the timeframe. these challenges also allowed me to know where my weaknesses were allowing me to improve more efficiently.
for improvements, I think I could have made my model to a better standard using better knowledge and skills to make it better and more consistent sticking closer to the logic of how mechanics work. I would have liked to find better references to make my robot mechanically accurate.
To improve I will make a more consistent attempt at following tutorials on 3DS Max, especially in the areas that I need to develop I also plan to ask for more advice from teachers classmates and friends. I also plan to make one model a month to speed up my skill development prosses.
Overall thoughts, are you happy with the task? Overall I am very happy with what was asked and how it turned out I really enjoyed working on this project and would like to tackle it again in the future
This project will help me while moving on because it has thought me the basics of 3DS Max and the basics behind concept design and idea creation. While reflecting I have realized how much feedback and issues help advance your progress and I've realized how important input is from other people. my strengths are learning and production as I am very invested in my projects and like to succeed. my weaknesses are my difficulty grasping certain concepts and my ability to get easily confused or overwhelmed. my strengths in technique are the basic my basics are strong as they are the most important at the early stages of any project. my weakness in technique is the more complex features of 3ds max like rendering and lighting.
