For this task, we were asked to make two hard-aced surfaced models using the 3DS Max software. We had to plan our initial ideas of what we wanted our scene to look like and his purpose and research concepts and references to better plan out our scene.
To start I drew up a sketch of the scene i had planned based on my ideas and concepts. I then imported them using them as textures so I could reference them as backgrounds to make my models accurate to the reference. I then used editable-poly moving edges and vertices into basic shapes creating the general look of my models. I then added the modifiers to create the more complex aspects using extrude to create the table.
The task went well altogether I am happy with what I achieved I added all the features I had planned and I learned a lot of things to help with model development in the future especially about materials and how to make competent renders. all feedback from friends and classmates has been good. The main negative feedback is that the model is bizarre and boring and that there are some clipping issues. The main positive feedback is that people enjoy the textures with them having the right amount of roughness and reflections.
My biggest issue during the task was my limited understanding and ability to use 3DS Max, My skills had to be improved to get to a level good enough for this project to be at a standard I was happy with. I had a hard time using the software due to the complexity of the software and the constant crashing and i had trouble understanding materials and how to get a high quality render i also wish i had more time and had less to focus on.
These issues are what helped me overcome this task as they motivated me to do better and learn the software as best I could in the timeframe. these challenges also allowed me to know where my weaknesses were allowing me to improve more efficiently. These issues also allowed me to improve my understanding of materials and rendering which will be a big help for future models.
for improvements, I think I could have made my model to a better standard using better knowledge and skills to make it better and more consistent sticking closer to the original images. I would have also liked to spend more time generating a better scene and exploring my options.
To improve I will make a more consistent attempt at following tutorials on 3DS Max, especially in the areas that I need to develop I also plan to ask for more advice from teachers classmates and friends. I also plan to make one model a month to speed up my skill development prosses and to add to my portfolio.
Overall I am very happy with what was asked and how it turned out I really enjoyed working on this project and would like to tackle it again in the future I also really enjoyed the final render and the prosses of rendering.
This project will help me while moving on because it has thought me the basics of 3DS Max and the basic behind using reference. While reflecting I have realized how much feedback and issues help advance your progress and I've realized how important input is from other people. my strengths are learning and production as I am very invested in my projects and like to succeed. my weaknesses are my difficulty grasping certain concepts and my ability to get easily confused or overwhelmed. my strengths in technique are the basic my basics are strong as they are the most important at the early stages of any project. my weakness in this project was the time management and the idea.
