Gamber Football and Cheer

The Gamber Mustangs are affiliated with the Central Carroll Rec Council and the Gamber Optimist Club. Our practices and home games are held at the Deer Park fields, in Westminster, MD. The Gamber Mustangs Football program is a member of the Mountain Valley Youth Football League (MVYFL).

We are a community-based, volunteer-staffed, non-profit program, focused on teaching young boys and girls the countless benefits of playing youth football and cheerleading. We strongly believe that team sports are a great way to build character, self-esteem, sportsmanship and leadership skills. We promote fair play, a positive attitude and values that we define as the "C's of fooball"--communication, comradery, cooperation and confidence. These values not only define our on the field practices, but are also values that we desire for our players as they grow up in the local community.

FLAG

Ages eligible: 5 & 6 (Must be 6 by Sept. 1)Weight Limit: None
Flag football is for children age 5 and 6.
The only equipment used is a flag belt, mouthpiece and cleats.
Basic concepts in football are addressed at this level.
Game day is a controlled scrimmage against the flag team representing the organization that the rest of our program faces on that particular day. Coaches will be on the field providing instruction during these scrimmages.

MINI PONY

Ages eligible: 8 & Under (Must be 8 by Sept. 1)Weight Limit: 110 lbs.
Mini-pony division is primarily for children age 7-8 years old with a maximum weight limit of 110 lbs. In order to advance the football, ball handlers must be under 90 lbs. Players over the 90 lb are considered “red stripers” and must play on the line.
This division is the first level of contact football and is a great opportunity for players to develop into tackle football players.
Practices will be critical in developing sound fundamentals in blocking and tackling. Basic team concepts in offense and defense as well as learning specific positions will be an important part of the team experience.
Game day is in the format of a controlled scrimmage against the mini-pony team that our program plays on that particular day. There are no special teams, referees or score at this level in accordance with MVYFL rules. Coaches are on the field during these scrimmages providing instruction to the players in the scrimmage setting in a similar fashion to what would take place in a practice.

PONY

Ages eligible: 10 & Under (Must be 10 by Sept. 1)Weight Limit: 135 lbs. The Pony division is primarily for children age 9-10 years old with a maximum weight limit of 135 lbs. In order to advance the football, ball handlers must under 115 lbs. Players over the 115 lb are considered “red stripers” and must play on the line.
This division is a great opportunity for participants to begin playing full contact football in true game situations. First time players and experienced players are welcome.
During pony games, coaches are on the sidelines at all times. These contests are played under complete game regulations inclusive of special teams. Each quarter is 8 minutes in length and the games are regulated by High School officials. .

JUNIOR VARSITY

Ages Eligible: 12 & Under (Must be 12 by Sept. 1)Weight Limit: 150 lbs. The JV division is primarily for children age 11-12 years old with a maximum weight limit of 150 lbs. In order to advance the football, ball handlers must under 130 lbs. Players over the 130 lb are considered “red stripers” and must play on the line.
This division is a great opportunity for participants to further develop their full contact football skills or learn them for the first time. New players and experienced players are welcome.
During JV games, coaches are on the sidelines at all times. These contests are played under complete game regulations inclusive of special teams. Each quarter is 8 minutes in length and the games are regulated by High School officials. *Maximum grade eligible for Junior Varsity Team (Age 12), is 7th

VARSITY

Ages Eligible: 14 & Under (Must be 13 by Sept. 1)Varsity Weights by positionTackle to Tackle – Unlimited Weight13 year old : 155 lbs. to carry ball and positions off the line.14 year old : 140 lbs. to carry ball and positions off the line. The varsity division is primarily for children aged 13-14 years old with no maximum weight limits. Players over the 155 lb or 140 lb weight limits depending on age are considered “red stripers” and must play on the line. Each quarter is 8 minutes in length and the games are regulated by High School officials. First year players are welcome to join the team and historically have become impact players. For our returning players and those moving up from JV, the varsity level prepares them mentally and physically for the next step of their football careers.
*Maximum grade eligible for Varsity Team is 8th

CHEER

We are excited to promote our Gamber Mustang Cheer program. Our focus will be on creating a positive environment for your athlete. Our cheer program will incorporate a combination of Cheer and Dance. We will provide our athletes with coaches who are dedicated to their well-being and serve as positive influences in their lives. We believe in building character in our athletes, as well as teaching the importance of dedication, teamwork, and goal setting.
