Congrats to our new head Football Director, Mike Cain! 

Meet Mike Cain, the dedicated 2025 Season Assistant Football Director, head coach of Mini-Pony D2 and new for the 2026 season- head Football Director. With a passion for the game and a commitment to developing young athletes, Mike brings a wealth of experience to the field.  This upcoming season will mark his 9th year coaching for the youth program.  In addition to coaching the Mustangs, he serves as the Assistant Offensive Line Coach for the Westminster High School Varsity football team.  Beyond football, Mike is a proud husband and father of two.  He loves cheering on his kids as they play sports and enjoys watching college football.

This will be Pete's 9th season coaching for Gamber football. He will be the Head of Level Coach for Varsity plus this is his 4th year as Assistant Football Program Director.  Pete enjoys instilling hard work, attention to detail, and comradery with his players.  He likes to reinforce the motto "Next play" to always keep his players looking forward no matter what happens.  Pete is married with two boys and two Great Danes. When not coaching for Gamber, Pete enjoys coaching for Finksburg Travel baseball and watching his oldest son participate in Cross Country and Track at Westminster High School.  

Derek is entering his fourth year with the Mustangs organization and his first year serving as Assistant Director. In addition, he serves as an Assistant Coach for the JV D2 team and is the organization’s Equipment Manager.

He is deeply passionate about mentoring young athletes and takes great pride in helping them grow—not only as competitive football players, but as disciplined, respectful, and responsible young individuals. He believes that the lessons learned on the field extend far beyond the game.

Outside of football, Derek enjoys cheering on his daughter as she competes with both her travel softball team and her high school team. He also serves as an Assistant Coach with the Titans Travel Baseball Organization, where his son plays, continuing his dedication to youth athletics year-round.

This will be Melissa Hartzell's 8th year involved with the Gamber Mustang Football and Cheer program, 2nd year as the Cheer Director and 5th year coaching.  She loves watching the girls grow both on and off the field.  Melissa has 3 children in the Gamber program and enjoys being able to help the program succeed.  Most of Melissa's time is spent on a sport field/wrestling mat, but in her free time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends at the beach or by the pool.

Meet Lauren Sydnor, a head coach of a cheer level as well 2nd year as Assistant Cheer Director.  This will be Lauren's 3rd year as a head coach.  She absolutely loves watching these girls bring all the spunk, passion, love and joy to the table from practices, to game days, to competitions.  In her free time, Lauren loves to spend all the time she can with her two beautiful girls Isabella and Lacey as well as her friends and family. She also loves listening to music, dancing and singing or even just sitting outside on a beautiful day.  She can't wait to see what the 2026 season has to bring and she is looking forward to seeing everyone on the field.
