Kitsune: A Look into the Lasting Presence of the Fox Spirit in Japanese Culture (2020)

This Master's history thesis encapsulates a dive into the the representation of foxes in Japanese culture as far back as the 7th century C.E. and up until the modern era.  It covers folklore, oral storytelling, Noh and Kabuki plays, paintings and Netsuke carvings, mascots, and even anime and video games as it delves into the vast and fascinating history of kitsune in Japan.  A sample can be accessed by clicking here.

Tetris Museum Prezi (2019)

As the final for my Public History class during Graduate School, I was assigned to curate/design a  museum or public work that I would love to see.  I created this Prezi showing the prototype design for a museum based on the hit game, "Tetris."  It was accompanied by a research paper, delving deeper in depth into the history of the game.

Ikebana and Flower Arranging (2018)

After taking a flower arranging class in college, I was hooked on the subject.  The pictures to the right showcase 0a select few of my favorite creations, as well as the Ikebana PowerPoint to accompany my Undergraduate Honor's thesis, Ikebana's Journey to the West.

A Favor for the Gods: Greece (2021)

A Prototype by Galen Skibyak

1-4 Players, Ages 8+, 30-60 Minutes

"The gods need a favor: destroy Kronos.  Gather the strength of three gods—one from each realm—and travel to Tartarus to face Kronos once and for all.  Roll dice, trade with others, strategize, and take on the task ahead."

In March 2021, I developed the first prototype of this game which is hopefully the first in a series of games centered on the pantheons and geography of people and places around the world.  It was presented at Protospiel Online in July 2021 and is currently still under development.

POG Jam 3-The Wizard of POGZ (2023)

From May 1st to May 8th of 2023, YouTuber Thundaga and co-host ENLS put on a 1 week long solo game jam known as Pog Jam 3.  The game jam required participants to:

The tournament was very meme-y and fun, and I decided to try my hand at creating a game in just one week.  However, before this week, I had only a handful of hours in the platform I used, RPG Maker XP.  Still, over the course of one week, in the hours after my full-time job, I was able to craft a very small game based on the Wizard of Oz for the jam.  Though it is simple, I am happy with the result and proud that I was able to do something so different and challenging in just one week.  That game can be found here.

Starting in 2019, I began work as a writer for Fictory Interactive's Visual Novel, A Certain Malady.  The project is currently on hiatus.  These are two of the characters I created and for whom I wrote dialogue and managed art and story briefs.

Maeve McGowan

Age: 23

Height: 5′4″

Occupation: Owner and Head Mechanic at The Pink Lady

Strengths: Intelligent, Enthusiastic, Handy, Fashionable

Weaknesses: Naive, Hasty, Awkward

Signature Flower: Pink Apple Blossoms

Three-time winner of the Hollis Achievement in Steam Power Award (HASPA) and recipient of the Hollis Award for Tinkering Youth (HATY) at just 17, Maeve McGowan is a crafty, creative immigrant from Innis.  Now, she runs Hollis’ loveliest stop for trinkets and mechanisms, The Pink Lady, unfortunately located in the seedy harbor near the Airship Docks.  However, as the Sickness rages on, clients have been disappearing, airships have stopped arriving, and the knick-knacks and do-dads stand still on the shelves.  With a burning desire to help, perhaps there is something that can be done if she puts her mind to it.  Will her clockwork creations be enough to combat the creeping Sickness, or will Maeve have to shut the doors of her humble shop?

Koji Ikeru

Age: 29

Height: 5′8″

Occupation: Personal Physician to the Honoré family

Strengths: Honest, Compassionate, Gentle

Weaknesses: Hesitant, Absorbed by his work, Blunt

Signature Flower: Bluebells

The second of four first-generation Hollisian sons, Koji is a skilled doctor struggling to protect his patients from the Sickness.  Early in his career, he was forced to amputate his dominant left arm to prevent the spread of a creeping disease, resulting in the use of a clockwork prosthetic created by Maeve McGowan.  As the Sickness spreads, the good doctor can do little but watch as patients flood in only to fade away.  Now, serving as the appointed personal doctor to your family while your parents serve as ambassadors to Hollis, you have the chance to get to know the man behind the metal.  Can Koji protect the ones he loves from the raging disease, or will he be fated to fail again?
