This is my 7th year at Gage Elementary. I have been with San Diego Unified School District for 22 years. I enjoy teaching children a second language. I have a daughter who lives in New York City. I enjoy traveling, especially to New York. I love finding old furniture and transforming it.
My name is Karla Alcaraz and this is my 6th year teaching elementary school. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Language Studies (ASL) at UCSD. There, I also earned my Master in Education and Bilingual Teaching Credential. I like going to the movies and LOVE eating fruit with salt, chile, and lime! :)
This year marks my 14th year in Education. I have taught third, second, and first grade. I spent my first four years teaching second and third grade in a 100% English Language Learner classroom. My last 7 years were spent at a school with 100% Spanish Language Learners. I love teaching in Spanish! One of my hobbies is running. I met my husband while I was running. We married in 2004. We have two children, Abbey is 12 years old and Andy is 7 years old. We love to hang out as a family, build things with Legos, go to Disneyland, swim at the pool, listen to the kids play the piano, and go to Rubios for Taco Tuesday.

I am a 2nd grade Spanish Immersion Teacher at Gage Elementary. I truly enjoy working with children and preparing them for the future. I believe every child can learn. An education should empower a child and help him or her make a positive contribution to our world. My wife Georgina and I have a beautiful family of two daughters, Carissa and Milani, who attend Gage and Pershing. San Diego has been our home town for the past 19 years. I enjoy traveling to major cities, weekend getaways, spending time with my daughters, cooking, and golfing. I look forward to working with your children and getting to know you all better.
Hi Gators! My name is Eliza Getch, I teach third grade Spanish Immersion. I have been working with students in SDUSD for over 20 years. On the weekends I love going for hikes, running, swimming, and relaxing with a good book. I have three amazing kids, Kelsey 22, James 16, and Kaila 14. My husband Mike is also a teacher. We love visiting Hawaii, and spending time at the beach. I grew up in Bronx, New York. I learned my Spanish from my parents who are both from Puerto Rico. I earned both my Bachelors and Masters Degree form SDSU. I am so happy to be part of the Gage community!
I started my teaching career in 1999 here in beautiful San Diego. This year is my 5rd year at Gage Elementary and teaching Spanish Immersion is my dream job. My husband is also a teacher and we have two boys who keep us very busy. We love to travel, walk around Balboa Park, and go to the drive-in. When I am not with my family, I love to do hot yoga. It’s my happy place!

For the past 21 years, I have served the diverse students and families in the San Diego Unified School District as a bilingual classroom teacher and a resource teacher. I have had the honor and pleasure of teaching and supporting sites with English Learners and students in dual immersion schools. It has been my passion to advocate for dual immersion programs. I believe students have the potential and desire to learn and succeed. I also believe all students benefit from being proficient in another language, in addition to being academically prepared. I am excited and honored to be part of the Gage learning community and family. I look forward to creating and sustaining an environment that is student centered, positive, and provides rigor for all students.
I have been a teacher in San Diego Unified for 24 years, and have taught English Learners and Spanish Learners in all grades K-12. I have been an advocate for biliteracy programs since long before I started teaching and I consider it a privilege to watch my students learn and succeed in Spanish. In my personal life, I am married and have two children, Cameron and Kaitlyn, who keep me busy with lots of sports, music, and extra-curricular activities! In our family, we are true San Diegans; we love all beach-related activities and spend most of every summer day surfing, bodysurfing, or just lounging in the sun with sand in our toes. I have been at Gage since a year after the Spanish Immersion program began and I am excited to see it grow!
Our families are beyond grateful for the knowledge, the structure and the kindness that all of our Spanish teachers have offered each of our students thus far.
