Gage Elementary offers a variety of activities for our students during and outside of school hours. By keeping our students engaged through physical fitness, the arts, science, outdoor activities, we are hoping our students will continue to want to come to school every day. Our staff and parents are tasked with engaging our kids in a fun and interactive way!
Running Club
Mon-Fri mornings* from 7:30-7:43am
Students and families are encouraged to run or walk laps every morning before the school bell rings (gates open at 7:25am). Students earn credit for each lap run/walked before school and at morning recess. All students are expected to run/walk a lap daily. Each lap represents 1/3 of a mile. Top runners/walkers and those who reach the goal of 150 miles are recognized and given a milage certificate at an end-of-year assembly. Ribbons are awarded as goals are reached throughout the year at 25-mile increments.
The Gage Running Club needs help EACH morning scanning QR codes to track laps. It only takes ~25 minutes of your day and you are done at 7:50am! A great way to help our students without affecting your work day!
*Start date: TBD 2024-2025 School Year **Weather permitting
During the 2017-18 school year, our Gators ran 54K miles!
Garden Club
Gage has a very active garden program. The school received a grant from SDG&E in 2015 which helped the school create an amazing garden area by the bungalows. There are now also garden beds in the Kindergarten playground. A few years ago Gage PTA was excited to receive the Sage Garden Award! This award provides a financial grant which helps pay for a educator to teach Garden and Culinary lessons, including hands on skills! Fundraising proceeds support an additional educator and supplies needed to keep the gardens thriving and the lessons fun! Additional maintenance of the garden is managed by parent volunteers, we'd love to have your green thumb to support the program!
Safety Patrol
Every morning and afternoon a select group of fifth grade students protects us and our loved ones as we cross the street to get onto campus. Each year our Safety Patrol is acknowledged for being one of the best in the district. In fact, in 2015 & 2022, our very own Gage Safety Patrol won BEST Safety Patrol in the entire San Diego Unified School District. That said, please continue to drive slow and respect our students as you arrive and depart from campus.
