In the lab we use a variety of hardware including many different verity's of bolts, nuts and washers all at different lengths, grades and ratings. I was tasked to make a system to organize and store these bolts and fit it under a shelving unit.
As a way to make this as comfortable to use as possible I gathered the heights of everyone in the lab and took the average height, this served as the point of reference on where the boxes should lay.
I was given free reign for this project and decided that 80/20 aluminum extrusion was the best option to construct this frame so that it was durable enough to hold hundreds of pounds of weight
I First drew out a preliminary drawing to get an idea for what would it the space that i was given to make this system
As a way to show my supervisor what the overall layout was I used Autocad to design the product and to make a installation view to see how it fits in the proved space
Through the use of a large format wet bandsaw I cut each piece out and assembled them where they would end up being placed
This picture shows the completed project,
