The Federal and Provincial governments continue to point fingers at each other over which entity should provide core funding for organizations supporting the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. At the end of the day, this back and forth fails to provide for community and reduces community capacity to advocate for ourselves.
It is time for the Provincial government to step up and provide core funding to queer organizations that it continues to request labour from but refuses to pay for. Communities, Culture, Tourism, and Heritage must make core funding available for organizations to apply for on an annual basis.
How much money? The Government of Nova Scotia must make at least $1.5 million is made available annually for 2SLGBTQIA+ organizations working to improve community equity in Nova Scotia.
