Gabriel Tourek

I am an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Pittsburgh. I am a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) and an affiliate of the Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), Evidence in Governance in Politics (EGAP), and the Behavioral Economics Design Initiative (BEDI).

My research focuses on public economics and development. I study the equity of transfers and taxes, the process through which fiscal capacity and governance jointly develop, and the value of information and digital technologies. I also focus on the organization of bureaucracies and labor market frictions that constrain firms' decision-making and growth.

I received  my PhD from Harvard University and was a Post-Doctoral Associate with the J-PAL Digital Identification and Finance Initiative. I have worked at Innovations for Poverty Action, Evidence for Policy Design, and the World Bank.
