My current research aims to relate mineral sorption potential to permafrost composition across the western Canadian Arctic. Mineral-organic interactions are a well-known method of carbon sequestration in southern soils but minimally explored in the context of permafrost. I aim to better understand this relationship to get a better idea of the fate of carbon currently stored in permafrost following thaw.
