For CNY 2021, I decided to keep aside some of the red packet money I had received, for donation. Before the pandemic, I would do my donations at the booths in the annual Pet Expo, so this was my first time donating online (with the help of my mother). I did spend a lot of time deciding which organisation I wanted to donate to, but I decided on Causes for Animals because I saw their Instagram post earlier that day. I also liked that Causes for Animals were helping stray animals! Usually, stray animals are very much forgotten by society, so it was good to see that there are people who do care for the strays. I donated about $20 for the CAS CNY Ang Bao appeal.
In 2020 a couple of my friends and I decided to sign up to volunteer for the Young Athletes program. The program took place in school, during on the Saturdays of end October to about mid November. Due to the pandemic, our program was held virtually where volunteers would engage the athletes via Zoom. Volunteers were split into groups and we to come up with our own simple workout routines for the athletes to follow. Our athletes were young children with special needs so we did face some challenges such as our athletes not wanting to participate in our routine.
However, my group and I still continued trying to engage the athlete with small talks and virtual high-fives! Through this program, not only did I have such a fun time with the children, I also learned to be more patient and innovative. I say innovative because there were times where my group and I had to think on the spot and improvise our routine to suit the athlete. There were also lots of quick thinking needed when it comes to improvising as a group as we had
to ensure that our group mates were aware of the changes without distracting our athlete.
Christmas is not only about receiving presents, it is also a day of giving. In Christmas 2019, I devoted my Christmas day to volunteering at church with my family. In the photograph, you can see my sister and me [right side] in the process of food packing which will then be distributed later on. Besides packing food, earlier in the morning I also assisted in cutting and peeling vegetables. It was my first time celebrating Christmas volunteering but it was probably also one of the more meaningful Christmases I've spent!

In 2019, I was recommended by teachers and peers to be a part of the Leaders-In-Training program (LIT) which included an overnight camp!
The program took place in a span of about half a year and in the program, I worked with the school councils and committee with behind-the-scenes duties such as patrolling around the school to ensure that every student has gone up to class for assembly and going up to each class to pass them their class key. During the camp, my group and I were given many different challenges and tasks that required much teamwork and cooperation to complete, and the fun part was that some of these tasks were done outside of school!
Overall, I had a very fulfilling experience in the program as I learnt that being a leader does not always refer to a position, in fact, anyone can be a leader! One of the things I learnt being a leader, is that it is important to take initiative and it is also important to communicate with the people you work with; and take everybody's ideas and feelings into consideration to work smoothly and in harmony.

In November 2016, my family and I along with the Church went on a trip to Batam. On one of the days, we spent it volunteering at the orphanage. It was my first time volunteering at an orphanage so I did not really know what I could do for them. However, as time went by, I had such a wonderful time with them! We played games, ate together, sang and danced together and at night, we played sparklers together!
On that day, I learnt that just by spending time and giving company to the children was enough, and it made us both happy. It also taught me to be grateful for what I have, as I truly felt sympathy for the children. But even though they lived without parents, they were able to still remain happy and optimistic, which also inspires me to do the same. I'm glad that I could spend time with them and get to know them, it was a delightful experience!
