For this project, I explored how social media impacts myself and society as a whole.
After taking the “AM I ADDICTED TO SOCIAL MEDIA?” QUIZ, I realized I used social media way too much! The results stated, : You and social media are PRETTY INSEPARABLE [Time To Log Off Social Media Addiction Quiz] You might not be 100% addicted (yet!), but you definitely need to evaluate how much time you're spending scrolling on your social media accounts. It may not be making you happy. One study by Facebook of teen Instagram users in the US and UK found more than 40% of those who reported feeling “unattractive” said the feelings started when using Instagram. It's a good time to start thinking about decluttering your digital life through social media and digital detox!
I agree that I am addicted to social media. I spend on average about three-four hours a day on social sites. I'm going to work on decreasing that time over the next few weeks.
The most interesting stat in the articles provided was ''Just one-in-ten Americans say social media sites have a mostly positive effect on the way things are going,'' In some ways this is surprising because people are able to connect more and others not so much like cyberbullying and peer pressure.
In my opinion social media has both negative and positive impacts on society. Its positive because it allows us to connect with people around the world, keep up with our friends, learn about different cultures and express ourselves. The negative impact is people take advantage of its accessibility by cyberbullying and pressuring them to do things. Over the years of learning about social media and using I've noticed a lot of people are depressed which people blame social media for, but it could just be about the current situation of the world, or they are finally able to share how they feel because of social media and it's an outlet for their pain and to help others with the same pain. Also, I believe social media allows people to get help for themselves, their family and their pets by setting up donations for life saving surgeries and medicine to people who can't afford it. Even if there's some bad to social media, I believe there's a lot of good to it which benefits society as a whole.
I learned that the public’s views on the positive and negative effect of social media vary widely by political affiliation and ideology. Also, I learned that I spend too much time on social media, but I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing. I'm able to express myself there and watch funny videos that cheer me up and learn about the world and I think it makes me more open-minded and kinder because I learn about so many peoples struggles and all I can think about is wanting to help them.
