The focus of my third-year research is the economics of healthcare.Â
More specifically, the study I conducted looked at hundreds of GoFundMe campaigns requesting financial support for obstructive lung disease (asthma/COPD) and used the data reported in these campaigns to determine the most financially burdensome aspects of living with these diseases. In addition, this research utilized socioeconomic data related to each author's zip code to determine how the personal backgrounds of each patient impacts their ability to fundraise. I'm lucky to be supported in my research by my mentor, Dr. Caroline Sloan, as well as Dr. Cara McDermott and Widline Senatus at the Duke Medical Center. I'm also supported by my family, friends, and the entire Fox Lane Science Research team.
