Helmets must be worn when playing
Players to referee game themselves or appoint a third person
Serve from the hand, both players must start the rally from behind the service line (middle of court - see image below)
Every Second Serve
First to 5 points to win a game
Serve must hit the “target area” (i.e. the upper slab) first for it to be valid. If net or side wall is hit first a second serve only is allowed.
Once served, the sliothar cannot be handled again until the rally ends
A maximum of One bounce and Three touches (for both control and strike) are allowed to return the ball to the wall.
The return must hit the target area first (i.e. without hitting the side wall or net) otherwise a point is awarded to the other player
If a valid “Let” is called the point must be replayed (see list of Lets below)
A rally concludes (and a point is awarded) for the following reasons:
opponent fails to hit target area with sliothar
sliothar bounces more than once before opponent returns it to the wall
opponent touches sliothar more than three times with hurley
opponent fails to return the sliothar directly to the target area (i.e. sliothar hits side wall or net first)
Lets may be called for the following reasons:
Player is obstructed by other player in an attempt to return the sliothar
Sliothar bounces on the gravel area on return from the wall
Sliothar hits net on return from the wall
Sliothar hits either side wall or fence before bouncing twice
