Our games are all inclusive, fun-first, and open to all skill, ability, and fitness levels - you don't need to have played before, or even need to know the rules. Our 'Callstars' (part coach, part referee, part emcee) are not referees, they are there to moderate, but also to encourage, and develop players, much like in our Mini Hoops programme, but for adults.
Our Callstar will first inform a player they have broken a rule or fouled - at a second instance they will mentor the player about what to do instead to avoid the violation or foul - then if the breach continues, they will begin to make the call. We aim to avoid the third step, and with the help of experienced players, we are sure we can.
The rules are also slightly different in our games...
we play 2 x 18-minute halves, with a short break at half time
substitutes can be made without stopping the game - just head to your bench and 'tag' in a sub
when defending a shot for goal, ensure arms are straight up and a respectful distance is maintained
after a turn-over (e.g., following a goal, intercept, etc.), half-court defence comes into play - the defending team must return past the half-way mark before defending
while fouls will be called and violations may be called, the whole idea is to keep the game fun - if you know how to play, help out others that might not be so sure, be respectful and offer encouragement
