URGE CALSTRS TO DIVEST FROM FOSSIL FUELS
"The California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS) currently holds $6 billion in fossil fuels! CalSTRS invests in fossil fuel companies that are killing us by spewing poison into the air in our communities and leaving toxic chemicals in our water and our ground. In California, over 7.37 million people live within 1 mile of fossil fuel production and 92% of them are people of color. "

Fossil Free has tons of information on this issue, including a way for YOU to urge those at the top to take steps toward divestment. The link below includes a list of everyone your digital letter will reach, along with a sample message for you to send!
BOYCOTT WITH YOUR DOLLAR
One of the best ways to voice your opinions is by only investing in products that you know aren't harming the planet. Build on the habit you’ve created (through our Integrate Actions!) of researching harmful and beneficial products by boycotting products that you’ve found are harmful to the environment, showing their producers what you stand for.
HOLD PEOPLE IN POWER ACCOUNTABLE
Government representatives, celebrities, and influencers all have the power to make monumental change towards environmental justice today. To advocate for reform, follow in @gretathunberg’s footsteps in calling out people by name who are not doing their part to solve our global issue. Remember to always be respectful and detailed in what you're asking these powerful people to do, so those you're criticizing can actually understand what they're doing wrong.

TELL JOE BIDEN TO RESIST OIL EXPLORATION DURING WAR IN UKRAINE
Through the ongoing war in Ukraine, higher-ups in the fossil fuel industry have been encouraging Biden to find new sources of petroleum, oil, and gas, claiming to be worried that the US will inevitably run out of fuel if it continues to boycott goods from Russia. However, this argument is misinformed, and resorting to producing more fossil fuels is detrimental to the climate! Send an email to the white house to urge them not to do this.

I'm a [Brief explanation of who you are (ex. high school student)] who is angry about the lack of action on climate.
Recently fossil fuel companies began lobbying to open up more drilling and finish the (only about half-completed) Mountain alley Pipeline because of the War in Ukraine.
The argument (pushed by the American Petroleum Institute) ignores the fact that these projects often take years to complete. They will not increase fossil fuel availability in the near term - nor will they reduce prices. And of course increased fossil fuel production only furthers the likelihood of climate catastrophe.
Some nations have used the war as an opportunity to move to cleaner, more reliable alternatives. According to The NY Times, "Many Poles, furious with Moscow and sympathetic to Ukraine, have installed heat pumps and other climate-friendly technologies in recent months — achieving in record time what years of calls for action from climate advocates could not."
Please ignore the profit motivated calls for increased fossil fuel production. It's the last thing we need.

TELL STATE LEADERS TO REQUIRE CLIMATE EDUCATION IN CALIFORNIA
Schools can be extremely influential to people's beliefs, and the belief that we should protect our planet should be universal! Help send a message to California leaders in order to make the facts on climate change accessible to all.

Who to contact: Gavin Newsom, Buffy Wicks, Nancy Skinner
I'm a [brief explanation of who you are. (ex: high school student)] who is angry about the lack of action on climate.
I urge you to pass legislation to require Climate Change Education from grades K - 12 in our State. Several states already have taken steps to provide guidelines, teacher training, and funding to educate tomorrow's leaders in this critical area. As of now, New Jersey has the most comprehensive program and even completed a progress report in February 2022, identifying key needs to improve their program
Students need to be climate literate by high school graduation. This includes learning scientific information about the causes and consequences of global warming; incorporating these facts in scientific, technological, engineering and mathematical arenas; and perhaps, most important, creating a culture of caring for the climate.
Global warming is already here, and future generations must be prepared to tackle this critical issue. Please take action now!
Thank you for your time,
