ATTEND A FARMERS' MARKET
Farmers' markets are one of the best ways to introduce yourself to fresh, locally-grown produce and support small businesses. Plus, they are way better for the environment than your traditional mega-chain grocery store. MINIMIZE ENERGY USAGE FROM 4 TO 9 PM
In California especially, the months of September and October are at extremely high fire risk. Between the hours of 4 and 9 PM, power use is the highest. So, it is our job to try to cut down our energy use during these times in order to prevent fires from catching and spreading due to the electricity flowing through our homes.
TAKE COLD SHOWERS
We know, that sounds awful, but just hear us out! When hopping into a cold shower, the first thing you want to do is get out as soon as possible. By taking cold showers, you are subconsciously going to use less water. Additionally, using solely cold water reduces the electricity needed to heat your shower, impacting the planet. Finally, taking cold showers has a whole list of benefits for your health, from reducing post-workout muscle soreness to calming itchy skin.
Just try it out!
(Note: Taking cold showers while sick or already cold can have more negative effects than positive ones.)

SELL UNWANTED CLOTHES TO YOUR LOCAL THRIFT STORE
Donate or sell your old clothes and give them a second life! According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), around 13.1 million tons of fabric are thrown away every year, only 15% of which are actually recovered for reuse or recycling. This means that countless amounts of energy and water are being used on garments that inevitably pile up in landfills all over the globe. By selling your unwanted clothing at thrift stores (and buying from them too!), you are ensuring that you are not adding to that waste. Check out our top thrift store picks below or SUBMIT YOURS.
