Pre-Health Sciences and Spanish undergraduate student
Ramon Martinez
Ramon Martinez is a Mexican immigrant who grew up in the central region of Mexico as well as the central valley of California. He is completing his undergraduate studies at Fresno Pacific University where he is studying Pre-health Sciences and Spanish. As an undergraduate, Ramon has collaborated with organizations that promote diversity, inclusivity, and communication across diverse groups of the community. These include a retirement home, a local folkloric dance group, a community outreach program, and the Intercultural Learning Center at his University.
Ramon's dream of becoming a health provider in the central valley is uplifted with the motivation that his experience as an immigrant individual has brought to his life. His vision on constructing a place where the magnitude of people's capabilities is more important than their legal status is something that motivates Ramon on earning his degree in nursing and helping immigrants who lack the language and resources to obtain proper medical care.
Communication-Media, Film Studies and Spanish Majors, Undergraduate Student
Rosa Rodriguez
Rosa Maria Rodriguez is a third-year undergraduate student attending Fresno Pacific University. She is currently double majoring in Communication-Media & Film Studies and Spanish. She is the first one to attend college in her family. From a very young age, she knew wanted to attend college, even though she did not know how she would be able to afford it. She saw how tired and exhausted her parents would come home after a long day working in the fields. Seeing her parents struggle, motivated her to do better and to one day, afford to retire them. During high school, she was involved in multiple clubs that involved community services. She enjoys helping the community in any way she can.
One of her biggest goals is to give back to her community. She inspires to help those in need, in any way she can. She would like to help first-generation, undocumented students with the process of college, the privilege she got to experience during her high school years. Throughout college, she has noticed how many might not get the same privilege. To this day, she still is grateful to those that helped her when she most needed it. She inspires to work in the film industry and create pieces that represent her community.
