Capoeira is a 500-year Afro-Brazilian Martial Art that combines elements of self-defense, sports, music, dance, body expression and much more. Developed in Brazil since the colonial era by Afro-descendant communities, capoeira preserves its essence as a fight for freedom.Â
Capoeira Gerais is a place where people grow stronger together—physically, mentally, and as a community. Gerais means “general” in Portuguese, a name chosen to signify that Capoeira is for everyone—people of a to all ages, genders, body types, and experience levels.
Through Capoeira’s unique history, born from both discrimination and the pursuit of freedom, we seek to promote cultural enrichment, wellness, empowerment and self-expressionÂ
Capoeira Gerais was founded in 1993 by Mestre MaĂł Branca. His mission is to create a better world through capoeira by nurturing people and educators who are more aware of their individual roles in society. Capoeira Gerais values the integration of individuals into society, regardless of race, color, creed, or gender, and strengthening their self-esteem, and helping to develop their character.
