Shinn Historical Park & Arboretum 

1251 Peralta Blvd. Free Parking in lot or along the streets. Watch for no parking signs next to the park.

9:00-noon  at Shinn Park. For Doors Open ticket holders have priority. A free Shinn House architectural tour for ticket holders. Donations appreciiated. The Shinn House Museum may be open; and the Chinese Bunkhouse Preservation team will be in the barnyard to talk about the preservation project of the last bunkhouse of the Shinn Ranch China Camp. Big news! Shinn Historical Park & Arboretum was listed on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior on April 18, 2026! And the historic Shinn House is 150 years old this year!

1-4:00 Shinn Park. Regular tours of the house resume.  Anyone may visit. First come first served with priority to Doors Open ticket holders. There is a nominal donation for the Shinn House tours: $6 adult and $3 children. Tours are from 1:00-4:00 (last tour Starts at 3:00). 

An online tour of the grounds is always available. The 4-acre grounds are great for picnicking and wandering. Many historic trees were planted in the 1870s-1880s. Good picnicking locations.

California Nursery Historical Park
36501 Niles Blvd, at the intersection of Nursery Avenue and Niles Boulevard.

11-3:00 California Nursery Historical Park - The California Nursery was established in 1884 in Niles.  The 1907 Nursery office contains the museum and archives of this historic nursery.  There are great picnicking places in the gardens around the Museum. Bring your lunch from Niles. Guided walking tours of the 20 acre park start from the nursery museum. Interpretive signage has been installed in the 20 acre park. If you miss a guided tour, you can make your own tour. The roses in the new entry rose garden were selected by renowned rosarian Paul Zimmerman to reflect California rose hybridiizers. Visit the far corner of the park to see the progress in restoring the California Nursery's historic  test orchard.

Niles Film Museum and Walking Tour 

1:00-3:30 Niles Film Museum and walking tour: Film Detective: Charlie Chaplin’s Bay Area Footsteps. At 3:00 pm we will screen his most famous films made in Niles so long ago – they are still sure to bring a chuckle or guffaw. At 4:00 pm, we will share a video on Charlie Chaplin’s Bay Area Footsteps created by silent films locations expert John Bengtson and then go on a walk around the neighborhood pointing out several locations as featured in these famous film shorts.

Washington Township Museum of Local History

Old Mission San Jose Museum

Tour guides will be onsite. Two options:

1. Self-guided tours

   • 10am – 4:30pm

   • Cost range: Free to $15

   • No reservations are needed

2.  Guided (docent-led) half tours

   • 1:00 PM start – duration is 1.5 – 2 hours

   • Includes Rosales Opus 14 Spanish Organ Presentation by music director Ron McKean

   • Cost range: Free to $20

   • Reservations are recommended and available

Parking is limited next to the garden. Find parking along Mission Blvd or Washington Blvd near Olive Hyde. If parking near Olive Hyde, you can walk to the garden through the neighborhood.
