My name is Alyssa, and I am a certified personal trainer, athlete, and manual osteopath. Throughout my life, I have been deeply committed to health and fitness, cultivating a passion for athleticism from an early age. I participated in a wide range of sports during my youth, but my primary focus was on competitive dance, a sport in which I competed in for almost 20 years.
Like many athletes, I faced numerous injuries during my training, which sparked my desire to explore the complexities of the body, particularly how it thrives and recovers from physical challenges. This journey of discovery motivated me to pursue formal education in the field of health and fitness, ultimately leading me to specialize in personal training and manual osteopathy. My goal is to empower others to achieve their fitness aspirations while promoting optimal recovery and overall well-being.
My experience at McMaster University in the Honours Life Sciences program was truly transformative and enriching. The curriculum offered a diverse range of courses that provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the biological sciences, equipping me with valuable knowledge that I apply daily in my professional endeavours.
In my final year at McMaster, I recognized the importance of integrating my academic insights with practical experience. Consequently, I pursued a certification in personal training, enabling me to channel my passion for helping others into a professional context. This certification allowed me to begin applying my extensive knowledge in a way that directly benefits individuals seeking to improve their health and fitness. My time at McMaster has profoundly shaped my approach to wellness and continues to inspire my commitment to fostering positive change in the lives of those I work with.
After obtaining my Personal Training Specialist certification, I began working with a diverse range of clients. A common goal among them was to look and feel healthier while addressing injury recovery and prevention. I soon realized that while building strength and stability is vital, chronic pain often requires a more comprehensive approach.
To better assist my clients, I pursued schooling in Osteopathy at the National Academy of Osteopathy. This education has deepened my understanding of the body, allowing me to address both fitness and the underlying causes of chronic pain. By integrating my personal training and osteopathic knowledge, I can provide a holistic and full circle approach to health and wellness.
