I’m Sophia Zhou, Director of FUEL. I’m a senior at the Massachusetts Academy of Math and Science, graduating in 2022. FUEL started from a Scratch Coding after school club that I ran in the 2020-2021 school year along with my fellow officers, Yiming and Jon, and is the main activity we run to this date. I’m an avid programmer, creator, and enjoyer of life; I like solving problems, making games or other projects, cooking, playing tennis, skateboarding, playing and listening to music, and playing recreational chess. Currently, I’m the Treasurer of our class’s Student Government, a co-captain of our programming team, and a captain of my town’s tennis team. This past year has shown me how impactful our work here at FUEL is, and I can’t wait to expand and introduce coding to even more curious and capable kids!
Hello! I am Stephen Cooley, a senior at the Massachusetts Academy of Math and Science and CEO of FUEL. I first was inspired to pursue Computer Science by after-school and summer camps, and so FUEL gives me the opportunity to pay that experience forward. I am passionate about robotics, engineering, and 3D printing, and I also volunteer for Valley Eye Radio, a radio station focused on improving accessibility for people with vision impairments. Outside of STEM activities, I also play tennis, and I am a huge history buff.
Hello! My name is Yiming Fang, and I’m a Senior at the Mass Academy of Math and Science at WPI. I first became interested in the technology aspect of STEM my freshman year, when I decided to join my school’s robotics team. I got hooked onto programming that year, and since then I’ve pursued multiple other opportunities to code. Currently my dream job would be in the fields of tech and medicine, and I hope to be able to do both! Outside of school I like origami, reading, and jigsaw puzzles. My main regret is not discovering coding earlier, but when I had tried java or python earlier they seemed a bit boring and difficult. That’s why I’m so excited about FUEL; I’d love to see more young kids passionate about programming, and I believe the extracurriculars this nonprofit organizes such as Scratch Club is a great step in that direction.
Hi! My name is Jon Cili, and other than being a senior at the Massachusetts Academy of Math and Science, I'm a passionate programmer and enthusiast member of the community. As a member of the Information Technology shop at a vocational high school for two years, I learned fundamental concepts in computer science and computer repair, knowledge of which helped certify me as a PC Pro Technician. If I’m not taking classes up on college campus at the time but you find me walking through the streets of Worcester, you can assume that I’m helping out with WalkFit, an organization for the visually impaired folks of Worcester. Outside of school, I enjoy biking, reading, and feeding my chickens.
