Future Teachers of Color (FTOC) Committed to Racial Justice
Purpose
Following the mission of the Institute for Teachers of Color (ITOC) Committed to Racial Justice, we serve students of Color at the University of Washington who have an interest in the education field broadly and who self-identify as social and racial justice oriented. Learning from communities of resistance (hooks, 2015) — a homeplace in the midst of oppression for resistance and liberatory struggle— FTOC is a co-constructed chosen space for future educators of Color to build community and engage in coalition building to prepare to transform schools into spaces of educational justice and joy for Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, and Pacific Islander youth. FTOC supports a collective of undergraduate, graduate, and teacher candidates of Color to enter the teaching field as racial and social justice educators.
