One-woman black metal artist, Fryktelig Støy, has partnered with Gutter Prince Cabal to release her shattering debut long play, Disappointment on limited edition tape and CD. Forged in the tradition of black metal, played with the weight of doom and the aggression of death metal, Disappointment is a fully realised, integrated statement of a debut album.
Using mythical and historical female muses as motifs, Disappointment takes the listener on a journey of abuse and survivorship, from betrayal to despair, then overcoming and self insight. Em Støy is an innovative songwriter who uses repetition and surprise to create a uniquely furious sonic landscape of scorn. A terrifying vocalist and distinctive musician who is equally competent on drums, bass and guitar, the resulting album is a coherent statement that usurps and buries.
What other people have said about Disappointment:
With this stunning debut, Fryktelig Støy establishes herself as a heavy songwriter with both talent and emotional insight. One that sits firmly in black metal territory, but is also unafraid of breaking genre constraints for the benefit of the song. If this is her just getting started, we can’t wait to hear what comes next.

Fryktelig Støy’s vision is that pronounced, fully realised and expertly delivered that ‘Disappointment’ presents as a standalone work of conceptual art, one that just happens to be wearing metallic clothing.

Em Støy (Oligarch, formerly Thrall) expertly builds her music’s foundation on doom and post-metal. The result of this unholy union is an album that is equal parts heavy, depressive and raw. Most importantly thought, Em manages to allow the best elements of each genre to shine through in her song writing and execution.

I wasn’t prepared to get kicked in the teeth as well as have my heart ripped out… what we have here is some lo fi influenced, yet somehow not practiced, black metal. Many styles are on display within the black metal spectrum, but this is black metal you’ll feel deep in your soul if you give it a proper listen.
