Before the 10th-Anniversary Update when a player draws an X or similar shape with 2 strikes, a sphere will appear that explodes all fruit on-screen and additionally increases the rate of performing a critical strike. Due to this, a huge number of points can be accumulated while this power is active. The power, when activated, lasts from 5 to 15 seconds, with the exclusion of the pomegranate on which the power lasts until the game ends. However, this ability will only allow the player to achieve a maximum combo of 7.

So this story goes a little something like this. Our team pitched unsuccessfully to do a cross-over with another group of popular ninjas of a certain green-skinned variety. It ended in tears for our team as we were all such big fans of the prototype we had pitched. The next moment we were informed that Sony had approved for us use of their massive collection of existing movie properties. Jetpack Joyride team had decided to go with a Back to the Future event and locked in a Sony classic. After a short team huddle to discuss potential ideas the Fruit Ninja Ghostbusters event was born. It would become perhaps my favourite project while working at Halfbrick Studios.

Fruit Ninja only recently received quite the update, but already the team has returned with yet another release. Fruit Ninja has teamed up Ghostbusters to tackle a spooky problem. There appears to be an outbreak of ghostly fruit and there's only one team equipped with the required tech and know-how to efficiently remove said spooky five-a-day. Ghostbusters. Cue the player, where you're tasked with slashing this fruit from another realm with the Proton Pack blade.

The update is the result of collaboration between Halfbrick and Sony Pictures to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Ghostbusters. The new content is available as a free update to those who already have the game purchased and installed. The ghostly fruit is joined by music and artwork to really set the mood. Will you be crossing the streams to unleash a fury of fruit destruction?

There are three gameplay modes. Classic gives you three strikes until the game is over, and you rack up strikes by missing fruit or slicing bombs. Arcade allots you 60 seconds to score as many points as possible, with a ten-point penalty for each bomb you hit. Zen gives you 90 seconds to rack up points, with no bombs to worry about.

The Ghostbusters-themed level is based on the New York Pneumatic Railroad from Ghostbusters II, complete with a pool of pink ectoplasm. Gameplay remains the same, with the exception of ghost traps being thrown into the mix. Slash a trap and fruit spills out.

In this event, all coins are replaced with fruit, and the player has to collect it instead of the usual Event Tokens in order to unlock rewards. There's a time limit of 30 seconds and when the player gets hit, they lose 10% of their collected fruit and 10 seconds of the remaining time. Barry does not die when he gets hit, he only dies once the timer reaches zero. To compensate, there are clocks flying around the lab, which much like Flux Capacitors in the Back to the Future event, add 5 seconds to the timer when collected. Zappers and Missiles spawn like normal, but Lasers do not. Gadgets cannot be used in this event and missions are disabled.

Prior to 2019, the time limit was 60 seconds (which was similar to Fruit Ninja's Arcade Mode's time limit). When the player got hit, they would still lose 10% of collected fruit but not lose any time. The clocks that give a 5s time bonus were absent and the game would simply end after 60s.

Well actually, it's going to be three different games. There's Fruit Ninja: Card Master, which is a fast-paced deck builder. There's Fruit Ninja: Slice and Dice, which is a strategic dice rolling game about cutting fruit.

Last but not least you've got Fruit Ninja: Combo Party. Which is a party game. So there's going to be something for everyone. As long as you like fruit and ninjas there's going to be something for you anyway.

All Blades and Dojos now have a unique effect on gameplay. Want a ten-fruit Great Wave? Bouncing clouds to never drop a fruit? Swirling tornados for epic combos? Mix and match your gear, experiment with all the powers and find what works for you!

Essentially the only thing you need to do in Fruit Ninja is to swipe your finger across the screen to wield your sword. You must slice every piece of fruit that is thrown up from the bottom of the screen. If you miss a piece before it falls back off the screen, you lose a life. Likewise, if you touch one of the rogue bombs that come flying up, you lose a life too.

Fruit Ninja is one of those games that feels really rewarding to play. The feeling of slicing fruit is so satisfying that it keeps you coming back for more and more in an effort to beat your high score.

The hacking and slashing controls in Fruit Ninja are very simple to pick up. All you need to worry about is swiping your finger across the screen as fast as you can. Actually, there's more to it than that, since you need to be careful to avoid bombs and time your slashing right so you can slice multiple fruits at once to perform combos to earn more points. ff782bc1db
