Blur (stylized as blur) is a 2010 vehicular combat arcade-style racing video game for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It was developed by Bizarre Creations and published by Activision in North America and Europe. The game features a racing style that incorporates real world cars and locales with arcade style handling and vehicular combat. Blur was the penultimate game developed by Bizarre Creations before they were shut down by Activision on February 18, 2011.

Tested monitor: ASUS VG278H, running at 120Hz, using the test at www.testufo.com/ghosting running at 960 pixels/second. Different monitors and refresh rates can have different overdrive strengths. Artifacts may show up at lower or higher overdrive settings on another monitor. The motion artifacts are otherwise very similar.

Without overdrive, LCD displays are prone to ghosting. Ghosting is typically caused by the asymmetric speeds of pixel transitions. LCD pixels often transition faster (or more completely) to a specific color, than back from a specific color. This creates the differences in motion artifacts on the leading edge versus the trailing edge of moving on-screen objects.

Pursuit camera are used by display manufacturers for testing (e.g. MPRT pursuit cameras). This is simply a camera that follows on-screen motion. These expensive cameras are extremely accurate at measuring motion blur and other artifacts, since they simulate the eye tracking motion of moving eyes.

Depends on the model. Some models have over 100 different overdrive settings, while other models only have 2 or 3 or 4 overdrive settings. The fewer overdrive settings, the less able you are to find a compromise settting.

Now I use the Zowie XL2411P monitor. It has 3 overdrive settings: Off, High, Premium. High/Premium give a lot of overshoot, so I use Off, which is much slower than others. Would like to get another overdrive setting, e.g., Normal/Low. But the manufacturer will probably never do it. And I will have to continue to play with high response times. This is sad ?

for context, i have an msi monitor 144hz 1ms with freesync for my amd GPU. In some games I get really bad white trailing blur around objects when i move and i dont know why. the monitor locks off the "fastest" response time setting when freesync is enabled, but when i play a game, it defaults back to "fast" not "fastest" response time when i try disabling freesync. its typically in games that run under 144 fps, such as dark souls 3, RE 4 and recently when i played ff7 remake on the PC. however, outlast 2 ran around 144fps, but i had the same problem. it may not be a response time problem but im not sure.

Thats overshoot. The Panel overdrive is too agressive. Basically the Pixels are "overclocked" and trying too hard to keep up with the refresh rate and "overshooting" the color they are supposed to change to. Lower the response-time stting until it gets better. "Response time" just means "Overdrive Setting" in this instance.

Edit: The overdrive Settings for 144Hz typically dont apply to content plaing at 60Hz. Most manufactureres dont include a "Perfect" overdrive Setting that works along the whole refresh-rate-range for some reason. Either you have to live with slower pixel response time at 144Hz when using a lower Setting OR pixel overshoot at 60Hz with a higher setting. Alternatively you can switch the overdrive setting according to the game you're playing atm.

if you do A D spam the camera moves fast but you dont get the same blur effect when you move your cross hair with your mouse a similar way

so i wonder if they add it on purpose, if they do its actually an indirect nerf to some of the lowest win rate dps and could explain why snipers are so popular as they are not always moving around and putting their crosshair all over.

yes, it was the exact solution to my problem. i tuned on freesync, because i thought whynot (heard it helps reduce latency) but turns out it locks the monitors overdrive to normal setting, but turning freesync off and setting overdrive to extreme fixes the blurry enemies from mid range issue. i only really noticed the problem when i started playing a lot of soldier who needs to be able to track mid range.

So many monitor reviewers say to not use the highest overdrive setting because it can lead to pixel overshoot, but doing so solved the motion blur of Overwatch for me. Thanks for the thread, wish I found it last year.
