It is known as "Real Sitio y Villa de Aranjuez" for being one of the Royal Sites of the Crown of Spain thanks to the declaration of Felipe II in 1560, and also with the title of villa obtained in 1899.

Also, in 1808, the riot of Aranjuez took place that ended the abdication of Carlos IV in his son Fernando VII. In 2001, UNESCO declared the Cultural Landscape of Aranjuez a World Heritage Site.
