God created a woman to be a helper to a man in their efforts of making God’s creation beautiful. The fact that a woman was created after a man does not make her subordinate to the man. Women have been experiencing several problems since the world was created.
A woman suffers double standards. This means that whenever a woman becomes successful no one sees the roots of her success as hard work. You will listen to people say “she slept her way to the top. “ This is not only the case. When a woman gets angry, she is accused of having a pre-menstruation syndrome. Does this mean that women have no space to express their feelings?
Women are subjected to oppression and gender stereotypes. In most cases, girls and women are sexually harassed while in rare cases, boys are harassed. This act talks to us that women are really oppressed. Women are stereotyped to be weak creatures but no one ever remembers the labor pain they go through while in the maternity. Women are viewed as sexual satisfying creatures, no one sees that a woman can make a change in the world. Women are even condemned for their dressing codes in the name of trying to please a man or make a man be sexually attracted to her.
God did not make a mistake of creating a womb in me. Everything God created was perfect. He created a womb in me because he knew for the world to change it depends on me and my generation. Oppressing women is archaic. It’s time to listen to the cry of a woman for our community to change. No one begged to God to be created a man or a woman. Womanhood is my strength. Don’t let me hate myself because I am a woman.
I think that often times pastors, as well as their wives, are misunderstood. Most believe that we have it all together, that we know it all, and that we are perfect. You would never say it out loud, but many times pastors are put in their own category, unreachable by the rest of the world. We are labeled different based solely on the title “pastor.” I do believe that we are different, but in many ways that you may not realize. We are fighting many battles that are the same as you, but also many that are different because so often we are fighting alongside others for their own battles. But point blank, we are human too and I think people often forget that simple fact. We have good days and bad ones, we struggle and we succeed, we have strengths and we have weaknesses. I wanted to create a post that could help you understand the heart of a pastor’s wife and what it’s really like to be in ministry, the joys, the hurts, the pain, the stress, the excitement, and the loneliness.
I reached out to a few of my pastor’s wife friends. They come from all different backgrounds. Some are newlywed, married for many years, and some with kids. Some are youth pastors, young adult pastors, and senior pastors. Some grew up in church and some did not. Some have been pastors for awhile and some are new to this whole thing. It’s a variety of people, yet the answers all seem to be the same. I didn’t share any ideas of what they could say, should say, what I would say, none of that. This is their honest answers straight from their heart and their experiences. My hope is that this would change your perspective on what it means to be a pastor and how we are just like all of you, just with a different calling.
You are here at this site because you are suffering from a myriad of feelings—the anguish of betrayal or other mistreatment, perhaps mingled with shame, guilt, or remorse. You want to be set free. We sympathize with your pain. We’ve been there. We can help.
Although you may feel isolated and terribly depressed, maybe even abandoned by family and everyone else, please remember that you are NOT alone. You are NOT the first one to be grievously mistreated by your pastor-husband. You can take the necessary steps to recover and restore your relationship with God. You can be WHOLE and WELL again. There is HOPE for a new beginning and a new life in Christ.
