When we're Baptised we're given our names. Traditionally these names were Christian names, however today many parents are prefering to give their children more secular or pagan names. We try to encourage parents to keep to the Christian tradition by giving their children the name they wish, plus a Christian name as a middle name. Christian names are Christian because they are named after Saints, Like Saint Christopher, Francis, Nickolas, Michael, and so forth. Some male names have a female equivalent, so if you like Michael as a name, but have a girl, the female equivalent is Michaela. When a person, child or Adult is Confirmed, it it traditional to choose another Saint's name as a Confirmation name. You may wish to use that name too. When speaking to children or Adults about choosing a name, the first thing they often say is that they don't know which name to choose. Of cause, if you have a favourite Saint, then you may like to choose that name. It makes sence to know something about the life of the Saint who you are going to choose to be your 'Patron Saint'. Perhaps there is something about the life of the Saint which endeers you to them,i.e. you may like animals, so you may choose Saint Francis. Perhaps you have a non English name, like Miguel, so you may choose Michael, which is the English version of the name. There's no real rules, you could choose your own name if you so wish, provided it's a Saint's name.
