Work With Us!
What is a "weed-out"?
It's when we remove invasive plants from the woods.
When do you meet for weed-out? Do you meet on weekends? Can anyone show up?
Our meeting times change seasonally with the schedules of the leaders. Please get on our email list for the current meeting times and places. We welcome all comers who are willing to work with us using the guidelines established by the county. All volunteers must sign a county waiver. Minors should have the sign off of their parents. Minors under 16 who plan to use tools of any kind should be accompanied by a parent (exceptions noted below). But mostly, just show up. We are welcoming and flexible! We host a few weekend weed-outs a year, but most of the time we meet on weekdays. However, if you have a group of people willing to show up-- we'll absolutely figure out a time amenable to you. (See below).
I have a group of scouts/students/colleagues who want to work with you. What can we do?
Please reach out! We are happy to host educational talks, scout badgework, a team of weed-out volunteers, or any combination thereof. We've worked with groups as disparate as a daisy troop, a 4th grade class, a group of office workers seeking a volunteer project for earth day, and a college-level environmental ecology lab.
What do we need to bring?
Yourselves! We recommend long pants, and if working with buckthorn, long sleeves. Wear comfortable closed-toed shoes that you can work in. If you have work gloves, bring them, but we have them too. Also bring water if you get thirsty.
Am I committing to something if I sign up for your newsletter?
No. You get a text email once a week six months a year. We're happy to remove you from the newsletter whenever you would like.
I can't volunteer? Can I give you money?
Yes! We maintain a small budget to pay for tool repair and replacement, gloves, safety glasses, and incidentals. You can give through the Park People, a 501(c)(3) organization.
