Our History
Friends of Honey Creek was founded in 2021 by friends and neighbors Angi and Allison, who had previously collaborated at Wilson School in Wauwatosa. Angi, the designer of the Wilson/WSTEM butterfly garden at the corner of Honey Creek Parkway and Portland Ave., had the idea of expanding school efforts at their outdoor classroom into a full-fledged invasive plant removal brigade. She got Allison and her organizational skills on board; they joined up with the Park People, and the rest is history.
Friends of Honey Creek operates with a small group of volunteers working steadily in collaboration with the County of Milwaukee and the Park People. We believe firmly that slow and steady-- leaving the woods every week better than we found it-- is a viable model for Friends groups who may be unable to raise large number of volunteers. In this way we have cleared over 20 acres of woody invasives in 4 short years and have been able to maintain those areas from year to year.
Friends of Honey Creek is indebted to a number of individuals over the years. We thank them for their efforts.
