In the movie Friend Request, technology and problems with technology served more as a medium to carry the plot of the movie rather than being issues of the devices themselves. For example, a computer screen was used as a substitute for a black mirror when Marina became a demon. Marina later uses phones and computers to target Laura's friends and eventually kill them. Technology only failed due to supernatural intervention from Marina, rather than technical issues or errors.
However, the supernatural-induced errors allow us to analyze dependency on technology, as well as character reactions to the loss of control over their technology. The biggest example is Laura and dependency of her social life being tied to her online social media. After Laura becomes unable to interact with or delete her account, she obssesses over it's impact on her social life, and often finds herself reading all of the hateful comments that have been left on her page. Due to lack of understanding of this technologic issue, others, like her principal, insist she just delete her account, unsympathetic to the fact that she physically is unable to do so.
Marina often uses her power to disrupt communication. By shutting off the devices of Laura's friends, they are crippled by the loss of technology they've grown dependent on, and are left without a way to call for help. She also cuts off Laura from support, as when her boyfriend tries to defend her online, Marina prevents him from posting.
