What We Believe

What We Believe About . . .

ABOUT SCRIPTURE

The Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, are inspired by God, without error in the original writings, and are God’s standard for all Christians.

(II Timothy 3:16-17; Psalm 119:9-16)

  ABOUT GOD

God is the Creator and Sustainer of everything that exists. He is one God manifesting Himself in three persons: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each has the same nature, is co-equal and co-existent.

(Genesis 1 & 2; John 14:15-21; Colossians 1:15-20)

ABOUT JESUS CHRIST

Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. He is truly God and truly Man, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He was sinless, yet He gave His life for the sins of the world by dying on the cross in accordance with the Scriptures. He alone can restore man’s relationship with God. He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into Heaven, sits at the right hand of God, and is our great High Priest and Advocate. The return of Jesus Christ is our “Blessed Hope” to be eagerly anticipated by Christians.

(Isaiah 53; Matthew 1:18-25; I Corinthians 5:1-8;

Hebrews 1:1-4, 2:17; John 1:1-4, 14:6; Colossians 1:15-20;

I Thessalonians 3:11-13, 4:13-18)

ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is fully God, the Third Person of the Trinity, the Spirit of God and Christ. He convicts us of our sin and brings the sinner to salvation. He dwells in the Christian upon salvation and is our Helper, Comforter, Counselor, and Guide. Christians grow in spiritual maturity through the Fruit of the Spirit. They are also empowered to witness through the Baptism with the Holy Spirit. Each Spirit-filled believer receives spiritual gifts as the Holy Spirit determines.

(John 14:15-21, 26; Ephesians 1:13-14; Colossians 1:9-12;

Romans 8:26; John 16:7-8; Acts 1:8, 2:1-4; 1 Cor. 12;1-11.  )

ABOUT MAN & SIN

Man is created in the image and likeness of God. The first man, Adam, rebelled against God, fell from a right relationship with Him, and in so doing, introduced sin and death into the world. We inherited Adam’s sinful, fallen nature, and all are sinners. The payment for our sins is eternity in Hell, a place originally created for Satan and his angels.

(Genesis 1:26-27; 3:13-17; Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12-13;

I Corinthians 15:21-23; Matt. 25:41)

ABOUT SALVATION

God sent Jesus Christ to save mankind from sins and restore man’s relationship with God so that we can live with Him forever. Jesus was sacrificed on the cross, died, was resurrected, and paid for the sins of all. Man can do nothing to earn his salvation. Salvation is by grace–a free gift of God accepted through a personal faith and belief in Jesus Christ.

(Romans 3:10-24; 6:23, 10:9-10; Ephesians 2:1-10; John 3:16, 36; Revelation 3:20)

ABOUT FAITH

Our relationship with God begins with faith. We are saved by God’s grace, through faith in Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 2:8; Romans 5:1)

ABOUT THE CHURCH

The church is the Body of Christ and consists of all people who believe in and follow Jesus Christ. The purpose of the church is to glorify God through worship, Bible teaching, service, discipleship, fellowship, prayer, and sharing Christ with others.

(Acts 2:42, 46-46; I Corinthians 12:12-13; Romans 12:4-8; Ephesians 2:19-22, 5:18-21; I Peter 2:1-6)

ABOUT MARRIAGE & SEXUALITY

Marriage is a relationship only between a man and a woman. The Bible tells us that "God created them male and female and that they became one flesh." Christ's love for the Church is the model that He set for the man and woman to follow. Sexuality is a gift from God.

Sexual relationship outside of marriage is not "casual sex."  Scripture calls casual sex between singles fornication, and it calls casual sex between married people adultery. Both are sin.

 (Genesis 2:24; Ephesians 5:25; Exodus 20:14; Ephesians 5:3)*
