What is unschooling?

Unschooling is the learning method by which children pursue their own lead as to what they want to learn and when. Unlike schooling or homeschooling, unschooling does not coerce any set curriculum. Learning happens through experience and inquiry in the context of real life, rather than through decontextualized and standardized test taking. In that, unschooling is based on the acknowledgment that there is a difference between education, which comes from the outside at a specific point in time (from Latin educat-, 'led out'), and learning, which is an inward, self-directed, continuous, and life-long ability.
