At the B1 level, a French language learner can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. They can deal with most situations likely to arise while travelling in an area where French is spoken, can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest, and can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
A learner at the B1 level can also give reasons and opinions on familiar topics, and engage in basic discussions and debates. They can also understand and produce more complex grammatical structures and expressions, and use a wider range of vocabulary.
