The A1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is the beginner level of proficiency in the French language. It is the first level in a series of six levels, from A1 to C2, which describe language proficiency from beginner to advanced levels.
At the A1 level, a French language learner can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and basic phrases. They can introduce themselves and others, ask and answer questions about personal details such as where they live, people they know, and things they have. They can interact in a simple way, as long as the other person speaks slowly and clearly and is willing to help.
