LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY

18-20 April 2024

An International Bilingual Conference

The conference French and Francophone Philosophy Today gathers diverse scholars from around the world to consider past, present, and future directions of French and Francophone Philosophy. Under this rubric, we include philosophical work in various traditions associated with global French and Francophone thought, such as: post/structuralism, deconstruction, phenomenology, psychoanalysis, feminist philosophy, philosophies of technology, history of philosophy, and post-colonial & diasporic philosophies (including Africana and Black Atlantic philosophy)

This conference intends to celebrate, honor, and reflect upon the distinctive contributions of LSU philosophers to contemporary French philosophy, including the work of Édouard Glissant (LSU, 1988-1993), John Protevi (LSU, 1994-2023), Marc Froment-Meurice (LSU, 1995-1996), and François Raffoul (LSU, 2000-2023).

Recognizing Louisiana's precious and precarious Francophone roots and Louisiana's historic investment in humanistic traditions tied to French thought and culture, we seek to affirm the important contributions of our international colleagues and commit to forging new connections between institutions, individuals, and scholarly networks worldwide, while we also look to determine what it means for us to inherit, extend, incorporate and even break with the distinct philosophical practices associated with French philosophy.
