Welcome to FreeCamper. Before you start exploring, please read this.
Effective date: May 26, 2026
FreeCamper helps you find campsites and plan trips by combining public data from OpenStreetMap, USGS, NOAA, the FCC, the National Interagency Fire Center, OpenCelliD, and other free sources into one place.
FreeCamper is informational only. It is not:
A substitute for ranger or land-management agency information.
A safety or emergency system you can rely on in the backcountry.
A guarantee that campsites are open, accessible, or safe.
An authoritative source for fire restrictions, weather, wildlife presence, or cell coverage.
For any decision that affects your safety, check the authoritative source directly:
🔥 Fire restrictions: local USFS district, BLM field office, state forestry, or inciweb.nwcg.gov
☀️ Weather forecasts: weather.gov (NOAA / National Weather Service)
🐻 Wildlife conditions: the managing park, forest, or refuge
📶 Cell coverage: your carrier's official coverage map
🚗 Road conditions and closures: state DOT websites and 511 services
🚨 Emergencies: call 911, use a satellite messenger (Garmin inReach, Zoleo, SPOT), or file a trip plan with someone before you go
Do not rely on this app for emergency communications. Cell-coverage indicators are estimates based on public datasets and may be inaccurate or out of date. Cell service is often unreliable in remote camping areas regardless of what any map shows.
Do not rely on wildlife indicators to make safety decisions. Bears, mountain lions, alligators, and venomous snakes can be present anywhere within their ranges — and sometimes outside them. Always carry appropriate safety equipment and follow local guidance regardless of what this app shows.
Do not rely on fire indicators to decide whether fires are allowed. Only the managing agency has authoritative current information about fire restrictions.
Practice Leave No Trace principles.
Respect private property and posted closures.
Pack out everything you pack in.
Don't enter tribal lands without permission.
Verify permits and reservations independently.
The current version of these Terms is always available at https://sites.google.com/view/freecampterms/home and our Privacy Policy lives at https://sites.google.com/view/freecamprivacy/home
FreeCamper sends your approximate location to public APIs (weather, fire, cell-coverage, elevation) to give you nearby information. We use Google AdMob for advertising and Google Play Billing for purchases, both of which collect identifiers under their own terms. We do not sell your personal data. For the full picture — what we collect, how long we keep it, your rights, and how to contact us — see our Privacy Policy: https://sites.google.com/view/freecamprivacy/home
You must be at least 13 years old to use FreeCamper, or the minimum age of digital consent in your country (16 in much of the EU). If you are under 18, you must have a parent or guardian read and agree to these Terms on your behalf. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
FreeCamper offers an optional premium upgrade as a recurring subscription. Subscriptions are sold and processed by Google Play under your Google account, not directly by us. Pricing, available billing periods (monthly and annual), and any introductory offers are shown to you on the in-app purchase screen before you confirm.
AUTO-RENEWAL. Your subscription RENEWS AUTOMATICALLY at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual, whichever you chose) at the then-current price, billed to your Google Play payment method, UNTIL YOU CANCEL. You will not receive a separate reminder before each renewal.
HOW TO CANCEL. You can cancel anytime, at no cost, from the Google Play Store: open Play Store → tap your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → FreeCamper → Cancel subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — premium features remain active until then. We do not control Google Play's interface; if those steps change, follow the latest path Google publishes.
FREE TRIALS AND INTRODUCTORY OFFERS. If your subscription includes a free trial or a discounted introductory period, the trial converts AUTOMATICALLY to a paid subscription at the regular price when the trial ends, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. To avoid being charged, cancel through the Google Play path above before the trial period expires.
PRICE CHANGES. If we change the subscription price, Google Play will notify you and — for a price increase — give you the opportunity to confirm the new price before the next renewal. If you do not confirm, your subscription will not renew at the new price. We may also change which features are included in the premium tier from time to time; we will not reduce the core premium feature set below what was promised at the time you subscribed without offering a comparable replacement or letting you cancel.
REFUNDS. Subscription refunds are governed by Google Play's refund policy. We do not issue refunds directly, and we generally do not pro-rate or refund partial billing periods. If you believe you were charged in error, request a refund through Google Play first (Play Store → Payments & subscriptions → Budget & history → tap the order → Request a refund). For unresolved disputes, contact us at the address below.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOUR SUBSCRIPTION ENDS. When your subscription is cancelled, lapses, or is terminated for any reason, premium features stop and your account reverts to the free tier. Your saved campsites, favorites, and other personal data are preserved.
EU / UK / EEA WITHDRAWAL RIGHT. If you live in the EU, UK, EEA, or another jurisdiction that grants a statutory withdrawal right for distance contracts, you ordinarily have 14 days to withdraw from a subscription purchase without giving a reason. BY STARTING TO USE THE PREMIUM FEATURES IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASE, YOU EXPRESSLY REQUEST THAT WE BEGIN PROVIDING THE DIGITAL CONTENT BEFORE THE WITHDRAWAL PERIOD EXPIRES AND ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU LOSE THE RIGHT OF WITHDRAWAL AT THAT POINT. If you have not used any premium feature, you may still withdraw within 14 days.
YOUR ACCOUNT, NOT YOUR DEVICE. Subscriptions are tied to your Google account, not to a specific device. Premium features are available on any device where you are signed into the same Google account, subject to Google Play's family-sharing and device-limit rules.
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use FreeCamper on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, subject to these Terms. You don't get any ownership of the app, its content, its name, or its branding.
The FreeCamper app, the FreeCamper name and logo, the user interface, the icons, the campsite curation, and all original content are owned by us and protected by copyright and trademark law. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, decompile, distribute, resell, or create derivative works from the app or its data without our written permission.
Don't scrape, crawl, or bulk-download data from the app or its backend.
Don't use the app to harass, harm, defraud, or impersonate anyone.
Don't reverse-engineer the app or attempt to extract its source code.
Don't use the app for any commercial purpose (resale, paid trip planning, etc.) without our written permission.
Don't interfere with, overload, or attempt to circumvent any technical or rate limits.
Don't use the app to access campsites or land you don't have the legal right to access.
Campsite locations in the app come from public datasets that may be incomplete, outdated, or inaccurate. Land ownership and access rules can change. You are solely responsible for confirming that any spot you visit is legal to camp on, that you have any required permits, that you are not trespassing on private or tribal land, and that you are following all posted closures and seasonal restrictions. We are not liable for fines, prosecution, towing, or any other consequence resulting from your choice of where to camp.
FreeCamper relies on third-party services and data including OpenStreetMap, OpenFreeMap, MapLibre, NOAA, USGS, the FCC, OpenCelliD, the National Interagency Fire Center, NPS, USFS, BLM, Google AdMob, and Google Play Services. Their accuracy, availability, and continued operation are outside our control. Their use within the app is subject to their own terms and licenses.
THE APP AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE OPERATION. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT CAMPSITE INFORMATION, WEATHER, FIRE, CELL COVERAGE, WILDLIFE, OR ANY OTHER DATA IN THE APP IS ACCURATE, CURRENT, OR FIT FOR YOUR INTENDED USE. Some jurisdictions don't allow these disclaimers, in which case they apply to the maximum extent permitted by law.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, BUSINESS, GOODWILL, OR USE, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE APP — INCLUDING DAMAGES FROM PERSONAL INJURY, PROPERTY DAMAGE, FINES, LEGAL PROCEEDINGS, BEING LOST OR STRANDED, EXPOSURE TO WEATHER, WILDLIFE, FIRE, OR HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS, OR ANY DECISION YOU MAKE BASED ON INFORMATION IN THE APP. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100), OR (B) THE TOTAL AMOUNT YOU HAVE PAID US FOR THE APP IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM. These limits apply even if a remedy fails of its essential purpose.
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold us harmless from any claims, damages, liabilities, costs, and attorneys' fees arising from (a) your use of the app, (b) your violation of these Terms, (c) your violation of any law or third-party right, (d) your decisions about where to camp or how to respond to conditions in the field, or (e) any content or data you submit through the app.
PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY — IT AFFECTS YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS. Any dispute, claim, or controversy between you and us arising out of or relating to these Terms or the app will be resolved exclusively by FINAL AND BINDING INDIVIDUAL ARBITRATION administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, rather than in court. The arbitration will take place in Texas, USA, or — at your election — by telephone or video. The arbitrator (not a court) decides all issues, including the scope and enforceability of this arbitration clause. Judgment on the arbitrator's award may be entered in any court of competent jurisdiction.
CLASS ACTION WAIVER. You and we each agree that disputes will be brought ONLY IN AN INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class, collective, consolidated, or representative proceeding. The arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person's claims or preside over any form of representative or class proceeding.
OPT-OUT. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by sending written notice to us at the contact address below within 30 days of first accepting these Terms. Opting out doesn't affect any other part of these Terms.
EXCEPTIONS. Either party may still (a) bring an individual claim in small-claims court if it qualifies, and (b) seek injunctive or equitable relief in court to protect intellectual property rights.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Subject to the arbitration clause above, any claim that proceeds in court must be filed in the state or federal courts located in Texas, USA, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the app at any time, with or without notice, for any reason — including misuse, violation of these Terms, or risk of harm to others or to our service. You may stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it. The disclaimers, limitations of liability, indemnification, arbitration, and governing-law sections survive termination.
We are not responsible for failures or delays caused by events beyond our reasonable control — including natural disasters, power or network outages, acts of war or terrorism, government action, pandemic, or failures of third-party services we rely on.
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make a material change, we will show this screen again and ask you to re-accept. Your continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest will remain in full effect. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver. These Terms — together with our Privacy Policy — are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the app, and supersede any prior agreement on the same subject. You may not assign your rights under these Terms; we may.
