11th July 2021 - Sedbergh

All walks are circular from Joss Lane car park in Sedbergh, LA10 5AS

The A walk, led by Jim, heads NW along Howgill Lane to meet up with the Dales Way at Low Braithwaite which is followed N alongside the River Lune to cross it over the Crook of Lune Bridge. Turning SE then S, the route goes over Firbank Fell and Foxes Pulpit to cross back over the Lune at Lincoln's Inn Bridge then follows the Dales Way alongside the River Rawthey back to Sedbergh.

The B, led by Steve Ellis, starts uphill, skirting Winder towards Crook. From there it heads W (mostly gently downhill) eventually joining up with the Dales Way. This is followed back to Sedbergh with spectacular view of the Lune Aqueduct. Steve points out that if it is foggy as it was on the recce, the views will be non-existent rather than spectacular. Also parts of this route can be quite claggy and muddy so good boots / gaiters are recommended.

The C walk, led by Chris, goes from Sedbergh to Ghyll Farm then S to Stone Hall and on to to Ellerthwaite. From there it join the River Rawthey at Straight Bridge and carries on past New Bridge and Millthrop Bridge to eventually reach Brigflatts. From there it crosses fields to Birks and back to Sedbergh. I did not find a way through Brigflatts from the riverside path but we can turn right at the main road and go back to it. There are several stiles in the first third but all are in good condition. It can be shortened at Birks if need be.
