10th March 2019 - Kirkby Lonsdale

The coach will park in the usual place just E of Devil's Bridge.


The A walk, led by Kevin, starts from Over Kellett near the M6 J35. The route heads N via Priest Hutton and Burton-in-Kendal to Farleton Fell then SE over Newbiggin Crags to Hutton Roof and E to Kirkby Lonsdale.

The B walk, led by Len, starts about 3 miles N of Kirkby Lonsdale on the A683 near Hodge Bridge and goes through Barbon and Barbondale to Blindbeck Bridge then turns SSE to Bullpot Farm. From there it heads generally SW over Brownthwaite Moss and along Fell Rd to Chapelhouse Lane and Devil's Bridge.

Optional Extension: From Devil’s Bridge, N on riverside to viewpoint and return through town. < 2miles.

The C walk, led by Chris, is a circular from Devils Bridge. A short climb through fields to reaches High Casterton and Fellfoot Road. This is an ancient Roman track from which you can enjoy stunning views all round Bowland, the Lune Valley and the Lakeland Fells. Also of interest along the track are the sheepfold sculptures by the internationally renowned artist Andy Goldsworthy, 16 stones in all. Eventually the path drops down through fields once more to Casterton (a lovely village with wonderful mellow old stone houses) plus Casterton Hall and back to Devil’s Bridge.
