11th March 2018 - Coniston

Dorothy and Roy are leading the A walk, starting from Water Yeat and following the ridge on the east side of the lake from High Nibthwaite with excellent views of Coniston Water and Coniston Old Man. Then forestry tracks to High Cross, continuing to Tarn Hows and back down to Coniston via Tom Gill Waterfall and the Cumbria Way to the Car Park at Coniston – about 14 miles.

Christine is leading the B walk and has offered her apologies to the party that the start of the walk has a little more road walking than she would have liked. This because the path she planned to use is closed due to flood damage to a bridge (the walk will stick to the route below even if the bridge has been repaired).

The walk starts at Lowick Bridge & soon picks up the Cumbria way, following it to Tottlebank, Cockenskell, Beacon Tarn and the Beacon. Leaving it on Torver Low Common, you will take footpaths past Mill Bridge to Torver and, once across the main road, down to the Lakeside path to finish the walk at Coniston. The total distance is about 10.5 miles.

Gerry will be leading the C’s – a circular from Coniston of about 6 miles up to Tarn Hows via Tarn How's wood and back via fell end, Boon Crag farm, Guards wood and the Cumbria way.
