13th Aug 2017 - Loggerheads

Loggerheads is an unfamiliar destination to some of us. It is a country park with a café and is close to the Offa's Dyke Path and the River Alyn. The estimated driving time to it from Preston is a little over 1 hour 30 minutes.

The A walk will be led by Jim. From Loggerheads car park the route heads SSW to Llanferres, continuing around the south side of Fron Hen to pick up Offa's Dyke Path ascending NW to the hill fort of Foel Fenlli. Dropping down to Bwlch Fenlli, the Path is followed to Moel Famau, the highest point on the walk, then continues N along the ridge of the Clwydian Range. There is an optional steep 400' ascent to Moel Arthur hill fort before heading ESE to Cilcain following the River Alyn back to the car park.

15 miles with 3500' of ascent.

The B walk will be led by Brian. From the Loggerheads car park we will head north upstream towards Pont Newydd, but then turn NE still following the river Alyn towards Nant Alyn then turning south towards Bryn Coch and Pantymyn, skirting Mold Golf Club and contouring along the slope of Cefyn Mawr before heading back to the coach.

The C walk will be led by Gerry who has kindly agreed to do it at short notice. A route may be announced later.
