10th Sept 2017 - Keswick

The A walk will be led by Ken and Pauline and starts with the other groups from Keswick. The route ascends Cat Bells, continuing on to Maiden Moor and High Spy before dropping down to Dale Head. Still dropping down, the walk now heads northwards to return, passing the waterfalls on the way to Little Town and Skelgill. From there the latter part of the walk will be a nice easy flattish section following the river all along through Newlands Valley to their destination of Braithwaite.

About 14 miles with 2500 feet of ascent.

The B will be led by Elfyn and Chris and is a circular walk from Keswick. From Keswick it heads south east via Springs Wood to Castlerigg Farm. We cross the A591 to Castle Lane to reach the stone circle. Thence to Naddle Bridge, Shundraw, Yew Tree Farm and Bridge House. This is where the walk is shortened by crossing westwards to the church and youth centre. We now go south of Skelthwaite Crag and across fields to Sykes. Reaching the A591 we again cross and return by the original route.

About 9.5 miles with 1240 feet of ascent

Led by Thelma and Kirsteen, the C walk starts in Keswick taking the footpath to Portinscale, and on to Nichol End. Then on the Cumbria Way to Hawes End and on to High Brandlehow Landing Stage. Passing through Manesty Woods and skirting round the bottom of Derwanter via the Chinese Bridge, this footpath leads to the B5289. From this point you can take the local bus back to Keswick, so, if you have a bus pass, REMEMBER TO BRING THIS WITH YOU. Alternatively, the walk can be prolonged by taking the lakeside walk back to Keswick.
