The B walk, led by Steve, starts in Baslow and heads uphill for about 1.25 miles – some strenuous and some less so. At the top of the hill there is the opportunity for a short detour to see the Wellington monument (only 0.16 mile there and back). We then turn north past the Eagle Stone towards Cubar Edge and Froggatt Edge and then onwards through woods to Grindleford. A planned stop here at the station café where there are picnic tables outside and hot drinks available hopefully. We then head downhill towards the main village of Grindleford, turning left just before it crosses the river. Then on the Derwent Valley walk through Froggatt and Calver back to Baslow.

10.2 miles. (Pray for a spell of dry weather because one or two areas might be a bit tricky if wet underfoot.)

The C walk, led by Bill, sets out from Baslow via West End for Pilsley. Suggest you leave some space in your rucksacks because we can visit the Chatsworth Estate Farm Shop here and you might just be tempted. We then go back through the village across the B6048 and have a steady ascent past Paddocks Plantation before turning sharp left down to Edensor. We then set out for Chatsworth House, cross the bridge into the park and follow the River Derwent back to Baslow.

6.5 miles.

This is a delightful piece of countryside which we don’t often visit, so don’t miss this opportunity. Chatsworth House is most spectacular and is set in some magnificent gardens. Highly recommended.
