The ‘A’ party, led by Christine and David, will start at Bolton Bridge and then go via Bolton Abbey, Valley of Desolation and Simon’s Seat on a circuit of the fells finishing at Bolton Abbey car park. This will be an easy walk as the leader might well have a hangover. It is a rather big birthday for her the day before!!!

11/12 miles with about 2000ft of ascent.

The ‘B’ party, led by Chris and Pam, start from the car park at Bolton Abbey and will follow the river before beginning the climb to the Valley of Desolation above Posforth Gill. They will continue towards Simon’s Seat on Barden Fell and Great Agill Head before turning downhill to Howgill Lane, Stangs Lane and then joining the Dales Way towards Barden Bridge where there is a choice of riverside paths back to the Cavendish Pavilion and the car park at Bolton Abbey.

Around 9½ miles with 1500ft of ascent.

The ‘C’ party, led by Bill, will set out from the car park at Bolton Abbey to Bolton Hall, take the footpath through Westy Bank Wood up to Little Hare Head, Middle Hare Head and then descend towards the Barden Road. The route turns back across the moor to the Strid Wood Visitor Centre and then follows the Strid back to the Cavendish Pavilion and Bolton Abbey.

7 miles with 650 ft steady ascent to Middle Hare Head.
