The main walk of around 10 miles (in blue on the map) starts from the A591 at Hollins Lane above Burneside and follows the waymarked Dales Way to Bowness.

A shorter version of around 6 miles starts at the A591 layby just before the turn-off to Staveley and picks up the Dales Way near New Hall via a footpath and minor road (in red on the map).
