Research-Informed Practice
At Free Range, we are dedicated to offering a high-quality educational experience rooted in evidence-based methods. My teaching philosophy is guided by the latest research in child development, ensuring that every approach is thoughtful, safe, and responsive to the unique needs of each child. By continuously engaging with current studies and best practices, I create a learning environment that fosters healthy growth and holistic development.
Discovery and Curiosity
Learning at Free Range centers around the journey, not just the outcome. I embrace a child-led approach that encourages exploration, curiosity, and independent thinking. Children are empowered to follow their interests, make meaningful choices, and engage in hands-on learning experiences. By focusing on the process rather than the end product, I nurture a space where children feel safe to take risks, ask questions, and learn through trial and error—cultivating a genuine love for learning.
Diversity and Inclusion
All families are welcome here—regardless of race, economic background, ethnicity, religion, or ability. I proudly support and affirm all gender identities and expressions, inviting children to play, express themselves, and explore freely, without the limitations of traditional gender norms.
As a community, we honor the rhythm of the seasons through nature-based celebrations that connect children to the natural world and their local surroundings in a personal and meaningful way.
Autonomy and Resilience
I believe in children’s capacity to make decisions and persevere through challenges. My classroom environment is designed to encourage independence, support emotional growth, and strengthen self-care skills. I allow space for children to encounter frustration and work through obstacles, fostering resilience and confidence. Whether it's getting dressed for outdoor play, solving puzzles, or navigating social interactions, I observe thoughtfully and step in with support only when truly needed.
Risky Play
Children thrive when they are allowed to test their limits and explore what their bodies can do. I support safe and age-appropriate opportunities for risky play, such as climbing, balancing, running, and using real tools. Engaging in physical risk-taking helps children develop body awareness, spatial understanding, and confidence. Encouraging this type of play builds not only physical coordination but also a deeper sense of personal boundaries and safety awareness.
