You can use your phone's mobile data to connect another phone, tablet, or computer to the internet. Sharing a connection this way is called tethering or using a hotspot. Some phones can share Wi-Fi connection by tethering.

Thankfully, there is a way to convert your Android into a WiFi repeater. Meaning, your Android is connected to a WiFi network and you can create a hotspot sharing the same WiFi network. And both devices will be able to use the Internet at the same time. So, next time you visit a Hotel or an Airport, where they give you internet access in only one device, using this workaround you can turn on Android smartphone as a WiFi repeater, and get Internet in multiple devices. No need to rely on mobile data and the speed is pretty fast as well.

I know, it's a weird question and you may ask why I need this. The reason is that my provider granted me mobile data usage, that I only can use for sharing via hotspot. I don't know how they do it but it really only works for other devices connected to my hotspot - I myself can't use it. I also don't have a spare phone where i could put in my sim card and let it act as a router.

You can create a Wi-Fi hotspot with your Android phone to share your internet with other devices that lack mobile connectivity. If you can't or don't want to use Wi-Fi, connect a USB cable or try Bluetooth tethering instead.

If you forgot to do something at the office, you might be able to fix something before it's a problem by connecting your work laptop to an Android hotspot while you're between locations. This is safer than using a public Wi-Fi connection that might not be secure. Beyond personal use, you might save the day by sharing your Android phone's mobile internet as a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Open the Wi-Fi menu on the device you need to connect to the internet. Look for your iOS device (ex: PCMag's iPhone), select it, then enter the hotspot password to connect. Once your secondary device is connected, you should now be able to use the internet (while consuming mobile data).

How you access hotspots on Android devices will depend on which phone you have and what version of Android you're running. You can generally open the pull-down shade and turn on your mobile hotspot from there or find it buried in settings.

If you need a mobile hotspot but can't use your phone, you could instead turn your laptop into a Wi-Fi hotspot. If you're a business traveler who needs to be connected all day, consider a dedicated Wi-Fi hotspot.

But given the case that there's no AP, I want users to be able to use their phone's Wifi Hotspot feature so they can still use my aplication. So one of the cellphones would be the wifi hotspot, and all the others would connect to that.

I require users to connect to a wifi by they own. Either to an external AP or to the said hotspot. Then when my application starts, it checks whether the phone is connected to a wifi network, calling the WifiManager.isWifiEnabled() and NetworkInfo.isConnected().

While your phone may potentially have the ability to become a mobile hotspot, that doesn't necessarily mean that you have the phone plan or data available to enable it. The easiest way to check is to go online and look at your phone plan or call and ask.

Many phone plans -- monthly and prepaid -- include a high-speed mobile hotspot for no additional charge. However, they're usually capped, so once you pass the monthly high-speed allowance, you'll be throttled down to lower speeds, but you'll still be able to use the hotspot unlimited.

However, the car also has a wifi hotspot, with an active subscription from AT&T. I have noticed that when AndroidAuto is active, the phone will use it's own mobile data to get to the internet instead of going via the car's wifi hotspot. In fact, the AndroidAuto applications all seem to be relying on the mobile phone's data connection instead of also using the wifi hotspot.

Any ideas? Is this normal behavior? It seems kinda silly that if the car has a wifi hotpot, that the car and the phones would not use that internet connection instead of force it onto the mobile data.

Welcome to the Community! I'm sorry to hear that you are unable to connect to the Spectrum Hotspot. I'd like to ask a few questions to try getting to the bottom of this. When you say "hotspot", are you referring to the hotspot that is generated by your mobile device so that other devices can connect? Or are you trying to connect your device to an Out of Home wifi hotspot in the area?

I am trying to connect my Android 12 phone to wifi hotspot initiated on Ubuntu 22.04. However the wifi hotspot is not visible in the list of available networks when set on WPA security. When I switch to open security, it is visible and works well. However I cannot leave it on open security.I tried the solutions given in the other post related to older Ubuntu versions as well as new one like the ones inubuntu 18.04 hotspot not visibleI have tried below options:

Turn your Windows PC into a mobile hotspot by sharing your internet connection with other devices over Wi-Fi. You can share a Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or cellular data connection. If your PC has a cellular data connection and you share it, it will use data from your data plan.

Turn your Windows 10 PC into a mobile hotspot by sharing your Internet connection with other devices over Wi-Fi. You can share a Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or cellular data connection. If your PC has a cellular data connection and you share it, it will use data from your data plan.

After exceeding your plan's monthly high-speed allowance, depending on the plan, you have a few options available. You can move to a plan with a higher monthly hotspot data allowance, purchase Data Boost for $35 for an additional 5GB, or continue to use your mobile hotspot at a lower speed.

With the use of mobile hotspots, Android devices can serve as a network hub providing internet connectivity to other devices, which is helpful for remote and hybrid workers who need a backup connectivity option or an option during travel. However, all the variations that come from carrier customizations and OS versions can make it more difficult to support Android users.

Supporting Android device hotspots can present some challenges from both a technical and a security standpoint. IT administrators should understand the problems that sometimes come with mobile hotspots and how they can cause performance issues.

Not every Android device is set up to use a mobile hotspot. For example, Samsung devices require users to have a tethering plan on their account. While an organization might deploy Samsung devices to its employees, it's possible that not every employee's device will have a tethering plan. The IT department can set up a policy in its mobile device management (MDM) platform and turn hotspots on. In contrast, BYOD users who want to use a mobile hotspot for work will have to pay extra for their tethering plan, which could potentially exceed the remote work reimbursement from their employer.

Ensure the Android device's software is up to date, as outdated software can cause issues with the hotspot. It's important to note that major Android OS updates sometimes depend on the mobile carrier to push out to their customers. Likewise, medium- to large-sized organizations using an MDM platform will often orchestrate OS updates to their devices under management.

Supporting Android users who need to use hotspots as part of their jobs requires a bit of strategy and preparation to ensure that the service desk or other support staff have the knowledge and access to troubleshooting documentation to ensure they can help remote and hybrid workers with ease. It's also important to prepare users with some basic Android troubleshooting so they can better communicate with technical support and, better yet, resolve mobile hotspot issues on their own.

I am having the same exact problem as Jangran my AT&T service is down and I was currently connected to my mobile hotspot I had no issues but now I try to reconnect back to it I forgot how to do that I am confused about another setup to connect to the mobile hotspot I already tried health device settings can you please walk me through how to reconnect by device back to my mobile hotspot

so basically what I am saying is I was using my mobile spot until I got AT&T service now the service is down so i want to reconnect my device back to mobile hotspot how do I do this I forgot how because a phone representative walked me through it again I already tried the health device it just keeping only giving me the option to only reconnect to wifi no option for hotspot

I just bought a Samsung S4 and am using its portable wifi hotspot feature for internet connectivity on my laptop when I go out the house.Works just fine when browsing the web(actually quite fast) but when I use uTorrent, it has an orange exclamation point icon near the bottom right. Downloads are slow even if I have 20-30+ seeders(around 6-10kbps max). Did a quick google search and found out(using canyouseeme.org and port forwarder port checker tool) that the port used by uTorrent is not open.

My MacBook Pro pro can't see my Android phone wifi hotspot, when I got the phone new the MacBook was seeing the hotspot and I was connecting to it but after some months it stopped seeing the network. It sees other wifi network around but can't see that of my Android phone

I had the same problem, but was able to fix this by switching the hotspot wifi network on my android phone to 5GHz Band, it can be done deep in the hotspot settings, see also this article: -trouble-connecting-with-android-7-0-wireless-hotspot-try-this/

I managed to get this working with MacroDroind app for android. Just created a macro that turn on Hotspot when bluetooth is connected to my car.

But would be great to have this available on HA mobile app.
